In this 1904 document, they were identified as being residents in Anaconda which is in Deer Lodge County. (You posted this in Powell County where the TOWN of Deer Lodge exists). You might wish to post in Deer Lodge Co.
It does show what was transcribed as "Baun." The full Family search database, typed data, shows Martha E. Latham, age 21, dau of George Latham and Emma S. Schartz. Spouse's birthplace: Baun, MT. Luther H. Hurlbutt, born 1880 in Council Bluffs, IA, son of Albert John Hurlbutt and Emma S. Randall. Witnesses Margaret E Rutledge, ? Wave, Isaac A Wove/Wave/Ware Minister.
The 1920 Census shows Martha E. Hurlbutt, age 25(1884/1885) born in Montana, married 6 years. Mother born in Germany, Father in Pennsylvania. Husband was Lon A(or H) Hurlbutt. Son Kenneth born in Washington, Dau Evelyn in Montana...If this is the correct family.
I did a number of searches for Martha, Luther and her parents. I don't know what information you have on her parents; but, at the time of marriage were her parents still alive? Had her father died and her mother remarried? Was Martha in Deer Lodge at a distance from her parents? My questions are due to her place of birth. She, or someone, identified the place of birth, but not the County. Did this indicate she did not know where she was born? The other possibility is the transcription of the data available on the original document. Could "Baun" be the place of birth of the mother? It is the name of a farm/farm land. It could have been mispelled from any number of other words, Bonn, Braun, etc.
Now as to the handwritting of the name of the location of birth. The first letter is clearly a "B." The next letter is probably an "a," as it matches other "a" letters on the form. See the "a" in Latham, Anaconda, etc. The tail of the "a" does drop in these cases, the end of "o's" do not. Now, the next letter is identified as an "u." But, if you look at the "r" in Hurlburt, Luther, especially in the maiden name of "Marie" E. Schartz, the next letter in "Ba.." could be an "r." Now the next letter after the "r," could be an "n." Take a look at the "n's" in Anaconda, especially in the name of Emma "Randall." Back in the day, a large number of persons wrote the "n" inverted, looking more like a "u." Now, after that "n," the tail of the "n" moves up, then comes down almost back into it, making it look like an "s." So, with my handwriting analysis, it could be Barns, or Barne.
As with Baun, I looked up Barns, Barne, Bar.., Bou.. Bor.., etc., in the US Geological Society database of Domestic names... I found nothing that matched in Montana. I also used the US Census looking for such a place in the 1900 and 1880 Census.
I looked at the Bureau of Land Management's database of land patents issued under the Homestead Act for any land issued to Latham, Hurlbutt, Hurlburt, etc. I found nothing matching criteria.
Based on your number of postings, I don't believe this is family.
